East Fork Grove Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The Atwell-Hockett Trail is not as well traveled as the more popular trails leaving Mineral King, which makes even this short jaunt to the East Fork Grove of giant sequoias a usually secluded experience.

After passing through the former site of Atwell Mill, where the big trees were cut down to be made into grape stakes in the late 1800s, the trail drops to a sturdy bridge spanning East Fork Kaweah River. Beyond the river, the path wanders another mile into the heart of the East Fork Grove to Deer Creek, a good turnaround point for day hikers."
