Eagle Lake Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Crystalline Eagle Lake, reposing majestically in a deep and scenic cirque, lures flocks of anglers, photographers, day hikers, and backpackers to its shores seemingly every summer day. The lake’s popularity is well deserved, requiring only a 3-plus-mile journey to reach, but the stiff climb demands that visitors be in reasonable physical condition.
Although camping is permitted at Eagle Lake (except between the trail and the lake on the west shore) campsites are at a premium, making this trip better suited for day hiking. Backpackers leaving cars overnight in Mineral King will need to place all food and scented items in the storage shed directly across from the ranger station because bear boxes are not available at trailheads. Especially in early season, marmots in the area have been known to nibble on radiator hoses, fan belts, brake lines, and even radiators—check with park rangers for current conditions."
