Crescent and Log Meadows

Three Rivers, California

Crescent and Log Meadows Professional Review and Guide

"This partially paved hike takes you past one of John Muir’s favorite meadows and to a real “log cabin.” Wildlife frequents these meadows and deer and bear sightings are common. As you begin this jaunt, heading counterclockwise around the loop, the paved path you are on coincides with the beginning of the High Sierra Trail.

After crossing Crescent Creek on two wooden footbridges, you take the fork to the left (northeast), leaving the celebrated trans-Sierra route. A large sign at the end of Crescent Meadow
proclaims it the “Gem of the Sierra,” a quote from John Muir. Wildflowers bloom amidst the green and yellow grasses: shooting stars and leopard lilies in early season, lavender-colored lupines in the middle of summer, and the bright spears of meadow goldenrods near the summer’s end."
