This trip starts with a brutal, half-mile climb, but the remainder is a pleasant hike through alternating groves of serene forest and open stretches of view-packed ridgeline, which ultimately leads to the shores of a beautiful lake and the apex of a lofty summit with even more fantastic vistas. Until fairly recently, this trail was open to motorcycles, but the Forest Service wisely banned them. With both a lake and a mountain as destinations, this trip is sure to please even the most discriminating hiker.
