The traverse of Lassen Peak is a rewarding trip. The scenery is exceptional, the terrain is excellent for telemark skiing, and the snow is always superb. This traverse is seldom done, perhaps because of the extra planning and coordination required, but is truly a classic. Camping is allowed in the park, but it cannot be recommended for this tour; carrying a full pack would prevent one from completing the 14-mile traverse in a single day.
