Highway 70 to Burney Falls Professional Review and Guide

"This section starts on Highway 70 at the Belden Town bridge, by the PG&E Belden Power House, which empties into Yellow Creek. Immediately west of the creek you come to the Belden Rest Area, and from its west end, by the Ely Stamp Mill, you start west on PCT tread. The trail parallels the highway and some powerlines for about 1.2 mile, then swings northwest for a traverse to a bridge over Indian Creek (2370.1.1). Shaded by Douglas-fir, big-leaf maple, black oak, live oak and bay tree, you traverse out of the creekfs canyon, meeting a trail (2400.0.3) immediately after turning west to parallel the busy highway. Should you want to take a last swim in the Feather River.here an inviting reservoir. take this trail 1.4 mile down to the highway. You now face a shadeless, rocky traverse above Highway 70 as you cross nearly vertical beds of the Calaveras formation. Beneath the buzzing of giant powerlines, you cross a low ridgecrest, quickly spot Chips Creek below you, and once again enter shady forest. After a pleasant traverse through the forest, you reach a junction (2470.0.6)."
