Mount Tamalpais: Pantoll Ranger Station to Stinson Beach Professional Review and Guide

"This hike takes you from open views on the slopes of Mount Tamalpais to Stinson Beach and the Pacific Ocean and, finally, under the shade of tall redwoods. Climb to the top of the bare knoll and gaze out over the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay."

This is my favorite trail in the bay area. Because of the superb landscapes and because of the great hamburger you can get half-way in Parkside Cafe in Stinson beach (arguably the best hamburger around, especially after hiking!). I recommend leaving no later than 11am, to be on time for lunch in Stinson beach. Count less than 2 hours to hike down, and about 1 1/2 hour for the way up. The landscape is very different on both ways, both really beautiful. Light forest and bare hillsides with view on the ocean on the way down, and dense, humid forest on the way up.
