Woods Lake Loop

South Lake Tahoe, California

Woods Lake Loop Professional Review and Guide

"The Woods Lake Loop explores an alpine basin in the High Sierras near Carson Pass, named for famous explorer and scout Kit Carson. From the Woods Lake campground, the trail follows a mild grade up into the Mokelumne Wilderness and stops off at the pristine Winnemucca and Round Top lakes. Observe the wide vistas across the mostly treeless landscape before returning to the campground via a steeper route. Terrain: Dirt path and some gravel road through sparse upper montane forests, over open meadows, and around alpine lakes."

Awesome hike! The trail is not too difficult, and the views are well worth all the effort. There were still tons of wild flowers even at this late date. I highly recommend this hike.
