I hiked this route with a group in ca. 1947 at my age of six, when Tamarack Trail was still being maintained. We traveled the opposite direction hiking up from Upper Angora Lake, starting from its eastern side up a wooded ridge. There was a semblance of a trail for a while but it was quickly scrambling up the steep slope to reach Echo Peak, where we ate lunch. I pooped out on the way down Tamarack Trail and was carried on the back of Mr. Cathcart, who lived up Stanford Hill from our cabin above the southwestern end of Fallen Leaf Lake. That was my first of many hikes over the next 20 years starting from Fallen Leaf. Great memories.

This trail is no longer maintained or signed. Not for the feint of heart this is a tough but rewarding hike. Some knowledge of the area and a live for bushes is recommended.
