Lake Aloha

Lake Aloha Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The scenic fifteen- minute boat taxi across Echo Lake to the trailhead is just a teaser for the mesmerizing hike ahead along one of the prettiest sections of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) in the western Sierra, which also happens to run along the Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT) on this stretch.

The trail climbs gradually above Echo and Tamarack Lakes over a granite terrace laced with mountain chaparral for 2.0 miles before crossing a wildflower meadow and continuing through patches of hemlock, fir, and pine forests. The trail offers glimpses of other lakes and ponds along the way before revealing Lake Aloha’s magnificently stark, smooth granite, island- dotted panorama."

"Set in the heart of Desolation Valley, the stark alpine centerpiece of Lake Tahoe’s Desolation Wilderness, Lake Aloha takes on different appearances depending on the season. Choked blue with ice in early spring, it can shrink drastically by autumn, but throughout the summer provides an extensive, irregular, stunning shoreline to explore."
