D L Bliss State Park Rubicon Point and Lighthouse Loop Trail

South Lake Tahoe, California

D. L. Bliss State Park: Rubicon Point and Lighthouse Loop Trail Professional Review and Guide

"For good reasons, the Rubicon Trail is very popular with hikers and tourists alike. Tracing the southwest shore of Lake Tahoe, the trail treats travelers to incredible lake views throughout a mile-long section to Calawee Cove, where diversions include a refreshing dip in Lake Tahoe or lunch on the picturesque shore. By returning on the Lighthouse Trail, additional treats include a bit of history at old Rubicon Point Lighthouse."

Moderate hike, we hiked from the ranger station, missed the first turn off for Rubicon Trail, as we were focused on the signs up ahead for the Lighthouse Trail. It was our plan to do the Rubicon part. The two trail heads are almost right next to each other. The park map does not depict that. We got to the beach, ate a snack and decided to walk on the road back to our car. It is mostly uphill, but easier than taking the trail up hill all the way back the same way we came. Nice hike with pretty view of the lake.

When we went on this hike It looked as though they were doing some kind of forest management project. They were piles after piles of fresh cut trees and debris everywhere. It took away from the beauty. Kind of sad really. When we reach the "lighthouse" I use this term loosely. It was pretty disappointing. The lighthouse looked more like an outhouse but the view was amazing.Main gate closed for season so you have to walk a few miles before you get to trailhead and the parking is very limited.
