East Ridge and Pool Ridge Loop

The East Ridge and Pool Ridge Loop is located in Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve near Guerneville, California. This hike is generally considered moderately strenuous, although the pleasant walk through the shady groves up into sweeping views that look over the park's ancient canopies is well worth the effort. Keep in mind that, while the wooded portion of the hike may be cool, the climb into exposed grasslands and rolling hills can be an extremely hot journey in the summer. Be prepared for weather changes and keep hydrated.

Dogs are not allowed on any trails in Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve. For current trail conditions for equestrian use, it is best to visit the California Department of Parks and Recreation page for Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve.

    Dan Brett
"A full loop along the two ridges surrounding Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve. This is a challenging hike, especially in summer, when the exposed ridges can get very hot. The views from the top are worth the effort, however. From the summit of Pool Ridge, you have the opportunity to get a rare bird’s-eye view of an old-growth redwood forest, not to mention the Russian River Valley beyond. The hike begins and ends in the aforementioned redwood groves." Read more
