Somes Bar Waterfalls

Somes Bar Waterfalls Professional Review and Guide

"Somes Bar is located at the confluence of the Salmon and Klamath Rivers, far away from the hustle and bustle of Highway 101. Although the coast is 40 miles to the west, it is still an 80-mile drive to Somes Bar due to the winding mountain roads. Somes Bar originated in the early 1860s as a store built a mile and a half up the Salmon River to supply miners seeking their fortune in the area. Unfortunately, the town was off to a rocky start when unprepared miners (and everyone else in the Salmon River area) got cut off by snow in spring 1851, causing great difficulty for everyone in the Salmon River area. By the time the snow melted and supplies were again made available, many miners had eaten their mules and even their own shoes to survive. Due to flooding, the store was relocated a half mile downstream in 1936 and then again after the 1964 flood to its current location, where Ishi Pishi Road meets Highway 96. This trail guide contains descriptions of the following trails: Ishi Pishi Falls."
