Andesite Peak Trail

Andesite Peak Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Little-known Andesite Peak is a snowshoer’s paradise, featuring solitude and superb views of the northern realm of the Lake Tahoe region. Your photos are likely to turn out just as good as those taken atop nearby Castle Peak (Route 40), which demands another 3 miles of hiking and 900 vertical feet to attain. With the route’s remoteness and mix of conifers and rocky crevices, you’re more apt to spot wildlife. Look for porcupines feeding high in the tree cavities or pine marten tracks in the snow. If it’s early spring, you may see the bushytailed wood rat or Douglas squirrel. The gray-crowned rosy finch frequently flitters in the pines."
