A large portion of Tahoe National Forest covers most of the High Forest near Downieville and Sierraville, providing woodlands, lakes, rivers, and streams for outdoor enjoyment. Five large manmade lakes offer a variety of water sports. The era of the gold rush is brought to life along the Yuba Donner National Scenic Byway, which travels to both slopes of the Sierra Nevada as it follows the North Yuba River from Truckee to Nevada City. Of particular interest is the portion of the byway between Bassetts and Oregon Creek, known as “49 Miles on Highway 49,” with its quaint gold rush towns along the river. Campgrounds included in this eTrail are: Bullards Bar Reservoir, Ramshorn, Rocky Rest, Indian Valley, Fiddle Creek, Cal-Ida, Carlton Flat, Union Flat, Loganville, Wild Plum, Salmon Creek, Sardine Lake, Diablo, Berger, Packsaddle, Snag Lake, Sierra, Chapman Creek, Yuba Pass, Cottonwood, Cold Creek, Bear Valley, Jackson Meadow Reservoir, Lower Little Truckee, Upper Little Truckee, Stampede Reservoir, and Lookout.
