Voyager Rock

Voyager Rock Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The drive to trail is very scenic passing through giant sequoia trees of McKinley Grove and on to stunning granite dome mountains surrounding massive Courtright Reservoir. Trail is in a major recreation area offering power boating, fishing, camping, hiking and mountain biking. Camp along shore of reservoir at Voyager Rock Campground. Backpack into nearby John Muir and Dinkey Lakes Wilderness. Bumpy, single-lane forest road that meanders through trees and over smooth granite slabs. Suitable for any stock, high-clearance SUV."

Courtright Dam looks like a mini-Tahoe without the crowds. We saw lots of camping and fishing spots all over this area, and the Voyager Rock Campground is beautiful. At the end of the trail is the Dusy-Ershim trailhead, which begins at "Chicken Rock". Even if you don't want to attempt the climb in your 4x4, it's well worth the hike to the top for the view of the lake.
