Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Dwarfed by its towering neighbor, the rocky rise of Mt. Eddy may not immediately catch your attention but, if you want a secluded valley and a summit with sweeping 360-degree views, it should."

"Most people in the north state give snowmelt from the flanks of Mount Eddy the nod as the headwaters of the Sacramento River, at 384 miles the longest river in California. One look from the windswept, flattened top of this peak, and who’s to argue? There’s no argument when it comes to shouldering a pack into the Deadfall Lakes Basin, where man and beast can find cool, clear waters to swim, and humans can chase rainbow and brook trout in Lower and Middle Deadfall Lakes. This is a great destination for families with younger children, since the trail gains little elevation to and from the basin. It’s the hike to the peak that will have adventurers wheezing."

We began early in the morning, while it was still only 85 degrees. The trail is a beauty, well maintained and offering views on views. The wild flowers were spectacular. Easily achieved the second lake. The third was a bit of a push. Others in the party continued up to Mt. Eddy, while we went back to the second lake to cool off, since the temps had reached 3 digits. Beautiful hike. The pictures from Mt. Eddy made me jealous. Next time!
