Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Thousand Lakes offers a less traveled wilderness in the Modoc Plateau, complete with alpine lakes and sweeping mountain summits. Here you can contemplate the construction and destruction of a volcano from atop an eroding crater rim."

I ran to the parking lot and then did the short hike to Homer Lake.

The new trailhead/parking lot is misleading. It is blocked off for the final 2.8 miles. DO NOT take the road/trail that has a signboard with info about bears, etc. This sign leads you to believe this is the path, but it is not the trail to Homer Lake! Take the bouldered off road to the left. Continue just under 3 miles until you reach the old parking lot. Follow the path directly ahead as you walked in. Homer Lake is a gorgeous mountain lake surrounded on one side by awe inspiring rocky cliffs (Keddie Peak).
