Glass Mountain

Glass Mountain Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Lava cooled so fast it turned to glass. Medicine Lake Volcano is larger in mass than nearby Mount Shasta, yet its slopes are so gradual as to be almost unremarkable. It is a shield volcano formed from basaltic lava, an extremely broad mountain very similar to those of the Hawaiian Islands. Measuring 15 miles east–west by 25 miles north–south with a surface area greater than 900 square miles, it is a prominent landmark of the Modoc Plateau."
