John Muir Trail is a hiking and horse trail in Tulare County, Fresno County, and Inyo County, California. It is within John Muir Wilderness, Sequoia National Park, and Kings Canyon National Park. It is 28.1 miles long and begins at 10,658 feet altitude. Traveling the entire trail is 56.8 miles with a total elevation gain of 15,402 feet. BM 3628.8, BM 3514.2, and another survey point, the Forester Pass (elevation 13,153 feet) saddle, and the Bighorn Plateau (elevation 11,404 feet) heath can be seen along the trail. There are also a water, camp sites, and wetlands along the trail. The trail ends near the Mount Whitney survey point and the Smithsonian Institution Shelter.
