Casa Vieja Trail Professional Review and Guide
"A short upside-down day hike. The trail begins in white and red fir, lodgepole, and silver pine forest. It descends gently, passing a wildly blooming and sometimes buggy little meadow. The spring-fed creek that arises here gurgles beside you between lupine-lined banks all the way down to Casa Vieja Meadows. Beyond a fence, the meadow glows vivid green early in the season and is interlaced with a network of little creeks inhabited by beautiful golden trout. Around its edges the forest floor is strewn with tiny but exquisitely flavorful wild strawberries in midsummer."
