Buckhorn Ridge Trail

Buckhorn Ridge Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Buckhorn Ridge Trail is a spur trail that runs in a northwest direction from the main Miranda Pine Road. The trail is designated for 4WDs, ATVs, and motorbikes and undulates for 3.6 miles along the narrow Buckhorn Ridge. Views from the ridge are fantastic. To the north is Pine Canyon, with the Sierra Madre rising in the distance. To the south is Bear Canyon. Three trails for motorbikes and non-motorized recreation lead off from the main trail. These side trails are not designated for vehicles. In recent times, brush threatened to obscure this beautiful ridge trail, but the track was widened in mid-2000 and is now suitable for wide vehicles for most of its length. The final 2 miles to the Los Padres National Forest boundary can be very brushy at times, and most people will probably prefer to turn back shortly after the intersection with the Bear Canyon Trail, which is the final point described in the directions. Special Attractions: Moderately challenging spur trail; Excellent wide ranging views over the Sierra Madre Range; Access to trails suitable for motorbikes and non-motorized use. High-clearance 4WDs are preferred, but any high-clearance vehicle is acceptable. Expect a rough road surface; mud and sand are possible but will be easily passable. You may encounter rocks up to 6 inches in diameter, a loose road surface, and shelf roads, though these will be wide enough for passing or will have adequate pull-offs."
