West Cuesta Ridge Road to Cuesta Ridge Botanical Area

Santa Margarita, California

West Cuesta Ridge Road to Cuesta Ridge Botanical Area Professional Review and Guide

"The West Cuesta Ridge Road, also called the TV Tower Road, begins at the summit of the Cuesta Grade. The paved road winds up the terraced slopes of the mountain to some of the prime vistas in the county. It also passes through the 1334-acre Cuesta Ridge Botanical Area in the Los Padres National Forest. The botanical garden has greenish serpentine bedrock and large groves of Sargent cypress, manzanita and pines. Throughout the hike are scenic overlooks. There are fantastic views of San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay, the Santa Lucia Wilderness, the Atascadero Hills, the Chorro and Los Osos Valleys, and the chain of morros. The rough, narrow road is open to motor vehicles but is primarily used as a hiking and biking route."

Good road for biking when it has been raining or when it is hot. Better trail if you start at the bottom of the Cuesta Grade. Lots of nice Oaks and a great view on top. This is a wide open fire road with lots of pot holes the higher up you go. There is a lot of options if you are looking for longer rides.
