Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"El Capitan is an amazing point break with barrels galore. This is one place you do not want to get caught inside on a big day.

El Capitan State Beach is located in the northern section of Santa Barbara County approximately 17 miles north of Santa Barbara. It has a long stretch of sandy beach and rocky tide pools. The surfing at El Capitan primarily sits at the top of the beach, where there’s a point break. One of the great and unique aspects of El Capitan is that unlike many beaches, where palm trees line the coastline, pockets of sycamore and oaks pepper the shores of the entire state park area. El Capitan is an excellent camping and family beach."
