Cachuma Lake Recreation Area Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Cachuma is situated on a small peninsula jutting out into the lake for which it is named. It is a very large campground but is well scattered across many separated camping areas. Swimming, waterskiing, and sailboarding in the lake are prohibited, as the lake is a water reservoir. Boats on the lake must be 10 feet or longer. The lake is stocked annually with 150,000 rainbow trout, and other catches include bass, catfish, bluegill, crappie, and red-ear perch.

From November through February, cruises are offered to view bald eagles that migrate to the lake for the winter. During summer months wildlife-viewing cruises are substituted. A dozen wineries lie just west of the lake, most within a radius of 12 miles. The quaint Danish settlement of Solvang is less than a half-hour drive away. Stay limit fourteen days. Open all year."
