Aspen Grove Trail Professional Reviews and Guides

"Hike along a lovely alpine stream to view Southern California’s only grove of quaking aspens. Lush perennial streams, alpine lakes, high peaks, tall coniferous pines, and even a grove of quaking aspens. This hike travels along the lower reaches of Fish Creek, climbing alongside a wonderful year-round stream to where it approaches Fish Creek Meadows."

"In October each year, the leaves of quaking aspens (Populus tremuloides) turn bright yellow for a few short weeks and then drop from the trees. Aspen Grove is one of only two places in California outside the Sierra Nevada where these splendid trees can still be seen. This hike follows Fish Creek through four groves of aspens. The willows in the creek also change color, adding to the festive fall display beneath the evergreen firs and pines. Call the Mill Creek Ranger Station for current foliage information. Neither of the recommended maps is perfectly accurate at portraying the maze of trails around Big Meadows, but the main trail form the Aspen Grove Trailhead is clearly marked."

"The Aspen Grove is one of the San Bernardino Mountains’ sweetest gifts. The quaking trees display some of the finest fall color this side of the Rockies. Follow the trail through the arboreal splendor of the San Gorgonio Wilderness.

From the trailhead parking and kiosk, head southwest and down the trail into the canyon carved out of the surrounding mountainside by Fish Creek. The trail turns south and parallels the canyon before crossing the creek and entering the largest grove of aspens and the only set of groves in Southern California."
