Lower East Ridge Loop: Ronald W. Caspers Wilderness Park Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"East Ridge runs north and south through Caspers Wilderness Park between Bell Canyon on the west and San Juan Canyon on the east. This is a short, easy, open loop trail on the lower end of East Ridge. The hike follows the 700-foot ridge along a graded dirt road — the East Ridge Trail — through exposed sage scrub and chaparral. The loop returns along the west-facing slope on a footpath through grassland meadows.
Cross the road to the posted trailhead by the coast live oak trees. Climb the hillside 0.2 miles to a junction with the East Flats Trail on the left (the return trail). Begin the loop straight ahead and continue up the hillside. Curve north along the spine of East Ridge, overlooking San Juan Canyon, Bell Canyon, and the surrounding peaks, including Old Saddleback."
