Juan Bautista De Anza National Historic Trail

Juan Bautista De Anza National Historic Trail Professional Review and Guide

"This easily accessed, tucked- away historic gem is a multiuse trail situated in the Gavilan Range across from San Juan Bautista home, the fifteenth mission in the California mission system. The hike sweeps up a moderate, mostly exposed hillside to a crest before descending more steeply for the last 1.5 miles to the gate on the backside.

The views stretch across the surrounding grazing land and a patchwork of farmsteads on the way to the crest. On a warm day you and Pooch will appreciate the corridor of oak and Monterey cypress trees for a shady break as you approach the crest. This trail is a rare opportunity to enjoy scenery and a slice of cultural history on rarely dog- compatible national park territory."
