Lewis Falls

Lewis Falls Professional Review and Guide

"This trek along the dependably flowing Soldier Creek is definitely a worthwhile stop. Follow an unmaintained trail through a former wilderness resort into a narrow, densely forested canyon, then boulder hop and bushwhack your way to the base of a secluded fifty-foot waterfall that—often— you’ll have all to yourself."

"At the precipice called Lewis Falls, Soldier Creek shoots (or merely dribbles if it’s not the rainy season or has been a dry year) some 50 feet down a two-tiered rock face. The volume of water splattering on rocks and sand below is seldom dramatic, but the cool spray and the sounds of falling water are refreshing. The hike to the base of the falls is short, a manageable adventure (with some assistance) for small children."

Use the roadside mileage markers to identify the starting point—a small, shaded turnout on the right at mile 34.8, where
Soldier Creek tumbles through a culvert under the highway. In the precipice called Lewis Falls, Sol- creek, under shade-giving oaks, bays, and Odier Creek shoots (or cascades, or bigcone Douglas-firs. Near the last cabin merely dribbles) some 50 feet down a two- upstream, the trail virtually disappears in tiered rock face."

This trail was a lot of fun. My brother and I rented some Polaris 250s, and played around out there. We did not finish the trail due to mechanical problems, but made it about 5 or 6 miles in. We went early in the morning, starting the trail just after sunrise. I recommend larger ATVs, an early start like us, take a good camera, and enjoy!
