    Allen Riedel
"Mount Hillyer is a short little trip that anyone can accomplish. There is a bit of elevation gain, but it is negligible, and this is really just a short walk up a hill. Surprisingly, the peak isn’t named because it is “hillier” it gets its appellation from Mary Hillyer, a clerk for the forest supervisor’s office in the early days of the Forest Service. There isn’t much in the way of a summit, but the scenery is nice and picturesque. There are giant boulders everywhere, some suitable for climbing. You might even spot climbers bouldering in this area." Read more

"This moderate loop along parts of the Silver Moccasin Trail meanders through the boulder-strewn landscape that served as a hideout for horse thieves and early rangers alike. Although the somewhat disputed summit isn’t much to write home about, the hike itself is in a lovely region of the San Gabriels with some ?ne views of nearby prominent peaks." Read more

"Lovers of the high Sierra Nevada may get some sense of deja vu atop the rounded ridge known as Mount Hillyer. The breeze sings in the branches of sugar pines, Jeffrey pines, Coulter pines, and bigcone Douglasfirs. Angular outcrops and large boulder piles lie on the slopes." Read more
