The Presidio Lovers' Lane and the Ecology Trail

San Francisco, California

The Presidio: Lovers' Lane and the Ecology Trail Professional Review and Guide

"With the closing of military bases all over the West Coast in the 1990s, San Francisco’s Presidio, one of the oldest of them all, dating back to 1776, is yours to wander. This hike takes you through military and social history, through scenic forests and lawn area, and along the path of lovers. Besides some interesting history and ecology, the trail covers most stages of a relationship: strolling down Lovers’ Lane, passing a proven well of fertility, reaching Inspiration Point, cruising by the chapel, and walking along by the old officer family homes, ending with the post hospital, where babes were born and loved ones said good-bye. As a bonus, there’s a bowling alley near the start of the hike to take a date to afterwards. This eTrail also includes suggested nearby attractions, camping & lodging, restaurants, and local outdoor retailers."
