The Philosopher’s Way Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"John McLaren Park, the second-largest park in San Francisco, opened in 1934. The park is named for John Hays McLaren, a Scottish immigrant who was superintendent of Golden Gate Park for more than ?fty years.

In the park’s 312 acres, you’ll ?nd 7 miles of trails, a golf course, water tower, reservoir, lake, and the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater (Garcia grew up in the area). The park is surrounded by neighborhoods such as Portola, Excelsior, Crocker Amazon, and Visitacion Valley, whose reputations range from family friendly to crime ridden."
