Lands End Trail

Lands End Trail Professional Review and Guide

"During the gold rush era, Lands End was a getaway for San Franciscans intrepid enough to endure a buggy ride over miles of sand dunes.

Then, in the 1880s, mining magnate Adolph Sutro and others invested in a railway line—built by his cousin Gustav—that extended out to the ocean. In 1887 the Sutros sold the line to the Powell Street Railroad, and in 1888 the Ferries and Cliff House Railway opened."
