Land of Lakes Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"While three-quarters of Golden Gate Park’s land area was sand dunes until the 1870s, these “outside lands” were never completely dry. Scattered throughout the dunes were fourteen marshy lakes.
Today, three of the original lakes remain, though they have been landscaped and altered from their original state. They’re known as the Chain of Lakes: North Lake, Middle Lake, and South Lake. The park’s other lakes are manmade, but you wouldn’t be able to tell by the diversity and quantity of animals that have made their homes in and around them."
