Stretching 1.5 miles along the Pacific shoreline, Sunset Cliffs Natural Park encompasses one of the county’s more impressive stretches of coastline. The northern part covers just the cliffs that separate Sunset Cliffs Boulevard from the ocean. As is the case in North County, beach-cliff erosion is very rapid here, and elaborate retaining walls that dissipate wave energy have been installed to keep the road from being undermined.
