Lake Murray Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Lake Murray is eastern San Diego’s most pleasant and most popular place to gulp some fresh air just about any time of year. Earlier or later on most days, hundreds of runners, speed walkers, skaters, and cyclists dodge each other on the lake’s perimeter service road (closed to automobiles) that extends along about four-fifths of the lake’s shoreline. Thus, the road’s end, about 3 miles out from the start, makes this route an out-and-back rather than a pleasing lake loop.
Lake Murray also provides an excellent bird-watching opportunity. Be sure to bring binoculars to visually capture the lake’s mix of aquatic fowl (ducks, coots, white pelicans, great blue herons, nesting ospreys, and much more) and also the freewheeling large birds (hawks, ravens, and vultures) in the sky overhead."
