Florida Canyon Trail Professional Review and Guide
"Balboa Park has plenty of “tame” places to walk, such as the landscaped sidewalks on the grassy west side, paved trails inside the San Diego Zoo, and a number of semi-wild trails in canyon bottoms near the park’s museums. But in the park’s lesser-known eastern section, centered on Florida Canyon, you can find about 4 miles of “wild” multiuse trails. Try to realize that, at first glance, the natural vegetation of Florida Canyon may appear scruffy and desiccated by comparison with the lushly (but artificially) landscaped acres of Balboa Park proper. The aesthetic differences between the two are minimized in late winter and early spring when new growth burgeons, the sage and other aromatic plants emit sweet fragrances, and wildflowers carpet the ground."
