Yaqui Well Trail Professional Reviews and Guides
"This is a well-signed, varied nature trail, slightly longer than most of the other trails in the park. The trail begins at the highway, but quickly angles up a rise on a gentle but rocky slope, where you become enveloped in the desert. The interpretive signs are frequent and clearly situated to label the correct plant. Jumping cholla are the most numerous plants, but ironwood and desert mistletoe also appear here."

"Follow the yellow-painted footprints from Tamarisk Grove Campground to the beginning of the Yaqui Well Trail, across Yaqui Pass Road. This is a self-guiding nature trail with interpretive signs posted beside several representative desert wash plants. The trail climbs slightly, skirts a hillside covered with dense growths of cholla cactus, and then descends to Yaqui Well, an important desert water hole. Yaqui Well is one of the premier bird-watching sites in San Diego County. The presence of surface water and fine growths of ironwood, mesquite, and desert willow have created a microenvironment that is cooler, more damp, and much richer in food sources than the surrounding arid hills."
