Pope Valley Loop

Pope Valley Loop Professional Review and Guide

"This is a journey to the quiet side of Napa County, the part the tourists rarely see: Pope Valley, only one ridge away, but a world apart. The ride begins in St. Helena, at the heart of Napa Valley’s world-famous wine region. But it won’t stay in the valley for long.

After a rolling run south on the wide shoulder of Silverado Trail, turn left on Sage Canyon Road (Highway 128) and say good-bye to the tourist hordes. A brief, level run through the trees leads to an easy climb to the shore of Lake Hennessey, the reservoir holding Napa’s drinking water. As reservoirs go, this one is quite nice, doing a passable imitation of a natural lake."
