Folsom Lake and Mormon Island Dam Trail

Folsom Lake and Mormon Island Dam Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Starting at the picnic area and beach—after a long car ride, what dog doesn’t like a refreshing dip?—the trail winds its way past a small cove that’s full of willows. You’ll continue across Mormon Island Dam and the 1-mile Dike 8 Trail, where you’ll get a great view of the entire 18,000- acre lake. To the southeast, you’ll get a good view of the huge cottonwoods and willows clumped together in the protected Mormon Island Wetlands. Bring a good set of binoculars and a bird-watching book to spy a spectacular array of birds, from songbirds that stay in the area all year to migrating waterfowl."
