The guide was not kidding about the bugs! The mosquitoes were persistent, but not terrible. During the lunch hours, the bugs basically disappeared. A little natural Badger Balm bug repellant did the job for the rest of the time. As a note, that last 1.5 miles is a lot tougher than you would have imagined given you've completed approximately 7.5 miles of the hike. Aside from that, this trail offered a strange microclimate within the Sierras. There were ferns and moss and things you would expect to see at the Redwood forest, but there were little to no pine trees present on the trail.
