Crane Creek Regional Park

Crane Creek Regional Park Professional Review and Guide

"The loop through Crane Creek Regional Park is a pleasant hike across open hills dotted with oaks and buckeyes. There are great views of vineyards, Sonoma Mountain, and Taylor Mountain. Crane Creek Regional Park is nestled into the rolling foothills on the western slope of towering Sonoma Mountain. The giant rounded mountain forms the divide between the Sonoma Valley to the east and the Laguna de Santa Rosa and Petaluma River watershed on the west. The peak is the highest point in the Sonoma Mountains, which includes nearby Annadel State Park and Taylor Mountain."

"Crane Creek Regional Park encompasses 128 acres of rolling, grassy meadows on the east side of Rohnert Park. This diverse park contains oak savanna, riparian woodland, vernal pools, and bunchgrass meadows. Crane Creek and a seasonal stream flow through the wildflower-covered meadows. The park is bordered with black oak, white alder, California buckeye, and maple. Hiking, biking, and horse trails loop around the perimeter of the park. Several additional hiking-only trails explore the interior of the park. This hike leads to ridgetop overlooks of the park, then down to the bucolic setting along Crane Creek."

"This beautiful little park located in the vineyard-dotted hills of Sonoma County isn’t a place to head if you are looking for an ambitious, legburning hike for you and your pup."

"The route to the park is mostly flat with a gentle hill just before you reach the park. Inside the park, depending on the trails you explore, there are some steep, short hills, but you can avoid them if you wish. A mountain is recommended for riding in the park. For those on road bikes, there is a bike rack next to the parking lot in the park where you can lock your bike while you hike and picnic in the park. Located in Southern Sonoma County."

Crane Creek has been a favorite of mine for over 20 years. I especially love it during Spring when the hills are lush and green and the poppies are everywhere. There's a small creek and beautiful old Oak trees. The trails aren't particularly challenging but it's just lovely. This is a great spot to picnic (there are a few scattered benches and picnic tables). This park is also big with disc golfers.
