Last Chance Canyon Drive Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"American Indians occupied the canyon for thousands of years, leaving numerous archaeological sites throughout the area, which is famous as well for colorful cliffs of sedimentary and volcanic rock. In 1893 gold was found in the area, spurring a variety of mining activities. Miscreants, eccentrics, squatters, prospectors and filmmakers found their way here in the decades to come. Some left behind structures of historic importance. The Bureau of Land Management is developing the Bonanza Trail, a route that will highlight the area’s historic sites. See Burro Schmidt’s Tunnel."
