Phillips Loop offers a nice loop off of the main drag that is East Ridge Trail in Redwood Park. It takes you down into the valley with a short climb back up where you can easily return back to the parking lot. All of Redwood is great--wide paths, lots of shade and dog friendly (some is off leash). The only caveat this time of year is poison oak! It was everywhere! Stay on the path and you'll be fine, but watch your off-leash dogs (and kiddos).
