"Last Chance Canyon is a beautiful, remote canyon within Red Rock Canyon State Park that combines breathtaking scenery, historical interest, and an exciting drive. The trail leaves Randsburg–Red Rock Road opposite the dry Koehn Lake and the site of Saltdale. The trail is a clearly defined, formed road as it climbs up the bajada, providing views back over Koehn Lake and the Fremont Valley, before it drops down to enter the wash in Last Chance Canyon. It follows in or alongside the wash for the next few miles. For the most part, the trail is well formed and remains out of the wash itself. Some sections offer the choice of traveling in the sandy wash or along the formed trail. The sand in the wash is deep and loose; some will slow down a vehicle. The sand is interspersed with rocky sections that will require careful wheel placement to avoid underbody damage. However, the most challenging rocky section can be avoided by remaining on the formed trail. Special Attractions: Open-air museum at Bickel Camp; Beautiful scenery within Red Rock Canyon State Park; Rockhounding for agate, jasper, and opalized wood. High-clearance 4WDs are required. This trail has either a rough, rutted surface, rocks up to 9 inches, mud and deep sand that may be impassable for inexperienced drivers, or stream crossings up to 18 inches deep. Certain sections may be steep enough to cause traction problems, and you may encounter very narrow shelf roads with steep drop-offs and tight clearance between rocks or trees." Read more

4wd is a must, don't take a 2wd prius through here. Most of the time you can ride in 2wd/4-hi but you will definitely want to have high-clearance. My jeep on 35s made it easily through the washed out creek beds, but there is an easier road for most of the way alongside (it crosses every now and then). Do note that there is a large rutted hill to climb nearing the end (if you start from the highway). You must go over this. Give 4/5 stars and the views were amazing, but for 4wd difficulty not very extreme.

The road was impassable two or so miles in. Beautiful desert country in Red Rock State Park.
