Mount Lassen Professional Review and Guide
"A relatively short (though steep) hike up a startlingly abrupt volcanic peak. The trail climbs out of scree and between small volcanic towers. As the highest mountain in the immediate area, it affords views of Mount Shasta and the surrounding area that are spectacular. Mount Lassen is the southernmost peak of the Cascade Range, which runs from British Columbia through Washington and Oregon into Northern California. Start your ascent by the sign that indicates the Mount Lassen Trail, at the north side of the parking lot. The route is well traveled and easy to follow. Steep switchbacks cut between rock formations that suggest giant plastic chessmen left in the sun. The trail passes one false summit on its way to the top. The true high point will be obvious: The summit crater is a rare feature."
