Simon Open Space Preserve Trail Professional Review and Guide
"Simon Open Space Preserve, on the edge of the San Diego County Estates housing development, is prototypical of other such open space preserves likely to be established throughout the county’s rural areas during the next two decades. As the suburbs spread outward, developers will deed parcels of open space they own to governmental agencies in exchange for rights to develop housing units. Simon Open Space Preserve is open for use by hikers, equestrians, and mountain bikers. Both equestrians and bike riders will surely have trouble negotiating the excessively rocky trails leading to the preserve’s higher elevations, though."
--Jerry Schad, Afoot & Afield: San Diego County (Wilderness Press).
Pretty wide open. No markers limiting travel off trail, though since it is a preserve that is probably desired. The trails start as a lowlying road at the same level of the residential areas. Going over the hills becomes a pretty nice rolling expanse that reminded me of the sounds of music, opps dated :), I like the fact that I could roam around. Not too strenuous.
Vistas of both Ramona and San Diego Country Estates. Trails are not marked very well but they are wide for travel. Most of the vegetation is dry at this time of the year.
