This trail was finally named the Woodrat trail. It starts at about 550' elevation and meets the Sunset trail in about 1.1 miles at about 950'. But if you take this hike, you'll want to go to the Sunset trail end / viewpoint, for a total one way trip of about 1.3 miles. For a short trip with a view, you can just go to the Woodrat viewpoint at about .5 miles one way (photo of bench at Woodrat viewpoint). The Woodrat has the best wildflowers in the park, except for Lupines. The first half is shaded, the top half is sunnier. No horses on Woodrat. Highly recommended. This is a no-fee park.
