Detailed Trail Descriptions from Our Guidebooks

    Vicky Spring & Tom Kirkendall
"Like all of the old and magnificent redwood groves, the tall trees of Peters Creek show signs of the fires and floods they have survived. However, the most amazing survival story is their miraculous escape from the axes that leveled most of the forests in this area before the turn of the century. The entire hike to this remarkable grove may be completed in one day, or it may be spread out over 2 days with an overnight stop at Slate Creek Trail Camp. No drinking water is available at the trail camp. All water must be packed in or taken from Slate Creek, a less-than-pristine source located 0.4 mile from the campsite." Read more
