To The Lighthouse

To The Lighthouse Professional Review and Guide

"Riding through the Point Reyes National Seashore is a voyage to another land, or at least to another landmass. Everything on the far side of Tomales Bay is part of a different tectonic plate than the rest of North America. It’s a transient sled of rock that first emerged from the ocean down around Mexico a few million years ago.

It has been bumping and grinding its way up the coast ever since. In the great quake of 1906, it leaped northward 20 feet in a single bound. The long, thin bay is the visible evidence of the San Andreas Fault, that restless seam between the two plates. Over there, on the other side, it is, both literally and figuratively, a world apart."
